Shopping
As well as many superb restaurants there are many markets to buy a rainbow of fruits and vegetables and other local produce like honey, fresh breads, sweet breads, dried and cured meats and cheeses for those who wish to self-cater at Kayalar Villa.
Roadside market stalls provide plenty of low cost fresh ingredients for salads, with a variety of greens and herbs, colourful peppers, tomatoes, avocados, chilli peppers for a little spicy zing, and citrus fruits freshly picked and packed full of taste and optimum flavour. As well as these local markets there are a number of supermarkets and butchers where home favourite brands can be bought to compliment any cooking. Breakfast cereals, teas, and coffees can be bought for a continental selection or fresh eggs, bacon, sausages and a variety of breads can be purchased for a traditional full English breakfast, the choice is yours!!
A short journey along the coast road in to Lapta you can find a good selection of beers and wines with local brands offering the most cost effective choices and the opportunity to taste and sample beers and wines from local breweries and vineyards. This vineyard is within driving distance to Villa Kayalar http://www.northcypruswines.com and is well worth a visit.
Northern Cyprus is mainly agricultural land and the majority of produce has a small carbon foot print to provide optimum health benefits for seasonal fruits and vegetables in abundance.
For other shopping experiences Kyrenia and Nicosia has everything you need. But if you crave franchises from home, a trip over the border at Nicosia by foot or car will open up a range of possibilities from Marks & Spencer to Debenhams and various other UK and international brands in the Southern part of the Cyprus.
(Remember you will need your passport and hire cars from the North of Cyprus are not insured in the South of Cyprus.)
